Do
you know of a good book I can look at for inspiration?
Funny you should ask! My book, Creative Stained Glass, Modern
Designs and Simple Techniques is full of pictures and instructions.
You will find 27 projects for the beginner and beyond to inspire
and give you clear directions. Order it today from your favorite
bookseller!
Do you teach classes?
Yes, private instruction is available. Contact me for more information.
Where do I start when planning
a project?
Once you've decided to put stained glass in your home or office
you need to select the reason you are using it:
- To control light
- To obscure an unsightly view
- To create an environment or mood
We can help
you with the selection process including details such as the
subject or theme, style, specifications
(most panels are installed
so as to be removable) and budget.
We have photo albums of previous
work and you can see work in progress as well as samples of glass
available.
What if I don't know what I want?
We can design a piece for you for a deposit or can draw-by-the-hour
if you need several ideas before choosing. Cost is $50/hr.
Once a design is accepted we will draw up a contract for you
with
an exact quote.
How long does it take?
Fabrication involves the actual building of the stained glass
using techniques appropriate to the project. Our lead times
vary with the number of orders we have at any given time, but
usually 6-8 weeks apply.
What about installation?
Final delivery and installation is your
responsibility. Most
often a van or truck is sufficient for transporting and a trim
carpenter or handyman can set your piece in place and trim it
in. We can offer you names from the Asheville area. Installation
is easy - a handy man or woman can hang these over existing windows
or fit and trim them in.
What about size?
Very large pieces are often done in sections, about 4 feet on
one end.
Since glass is so hard to ship and guarantee safe delivery, we
do not offer shipping. Why ask for headaches if
you know if won't be 100% successful?
What about cost?
Only estimated prices can be given until the design has been
finalized. It is typical to price according to square footage
and/or the number of pieces of glass; however, large, simple
panels are easier to make than smaller intricate ones. So there
is no formula. Tell us what you are hoping to spend and we
will show you what can be done (or not!). We won't make a piece
not considered beautiful or artistic. After all, our reputation
is on the line. Most good stained glass artists charge, on
an average, $100 to $200 per square foot if you must have some
numbers.
Do you have a catalog?
Our web site IS our catalog and we have photo albums as well
to view. Since every panel we build is custom designed to someone
else's specifications, this makes a catalog virutually impossible.
What kinds of glass are available?
The colors, textures and makes of stained glass are truely enormous.
We can match colors of paint, textiles or ceramics quite well,
with a few exceptions.
I hear you have a customer service rep. Who
is it?
Bernie has taken the job that Baggins held for so long. He
is still learning on the job but he shows great promise.
